Origin and Growth

The modest beginnings of Sukhodaya date back to the year 1947. Late Vaidyan C L Varghese started a small Ayurveda center in Kanjirapally, Kottayam. Equipped with rare insights into the great science of Ayurveda, Varghese Vaidyan effected miraculous cures for all kinds of ill health especially eye diseases. The grinding stone used by Vaidyan Varghese is still preserved as our proud heritage and as a symbol of the hard work of our founder father, which is the foundation on which Sukhodaya is built.
Dr. C V James, son of Varghese Vaidyan, and his wife Dr. Reetha James joined the family enterprise. Along with the traditional knowledge and experience they brought in modern technological expertise and research.

Sukhodaya Pharmaceuticals was born under the guidance of this new team, which went on to formulate nearly 22 patent drugs and the first ever Ayurvedic First Aid Kit. In 1983 Sukhodaya Hospital was started in Kanjirapally. A yoga-training centre was also started. Sukhodaya Gardens, which was born in 1984, was a pioneering endeavour in popularizing and spreading awareness about medicinal herbs.

In 1989 the Sukhodaya Charitable Society was formed. Under the aegis of the society, the group conducts periodical exhibitions and free medical camps. One of the major achievements of the society was the Kanjirapally Fest conducted during January 2001. A ten daylong programme, the fest included exhibition of rare medicinal herbs, trade fair, amusement park, cultural programmes etc. The society also conducts courses in herbal medicine, panchakarma therapies and yoga.

Continuing with our mission of making Ayurveda therapies available to the common man, Sukhodaya opened its second hospital at Kanjikuzhy in 1991. Sukhodaya's foray into the hospitality industry started with Sukhodaya Resorts and Sukhodaya Homestay.
Sukhodaya Ayurveda Sastra Masika, the Ayurveda magazine for the common man is the latest of Sukhodaya ventures.

From 1947, the year of its birth, Sukhodaya has held on to ideals of excellence. Today the name Sukhodaya is synonymous with quality and excellence.
Our medicines are made from raw materials grown in our own herb farms, which give them the seal of quality. The entire manufacturing process is subject to stringent quality checks.
Our team of dedicated and experienced staff who share the ideals that Sukhodaya stands for has crafted Sukhodaya's success story over the years.

Our Vision
We aim at implementing strategies to increase awareness among the people regarding the goodness and wisdom of Ayurveda. Our regular exhibitions, camps, seminars etc and our magazine on Ayurveda are steps in this direction. We are also developing a comprehensive e-com enabled corporate website for the group providing detailed information about the company and Ayurveda in general.
Through these efforts, we hope to spread the reach of Ayurveda in all corners of the globe and help humanity everywhere to realize true fullness of life.
